ABSTRACT

The optimal physical condition of ruminants (beef cattle) can be achieved if supported by the suitability of the ecological environment of growing livestock and the adequacy of fodder. The purpose of this study was to analyze the priority areas for the development of beef cattle in Batang Regency based on land suitability (cages and fodder) and based on economic factors.The analysis in this study uses a Geographic Information System (GIS). Overlay and matching techniques are carried out on various digital maps (soil type maps, agro-climate maps, elevation maps, slope maps, spatial plan maps) and tabular data (livestock population, food crop production, soil type data). The area that is in accordance with the ecological environment of beef cattle (cages can be built) as follows: Bandar Subdistrict (3381,8 Ha), Blado (2501,2 Ha), and Bawang (2277,4 Ha). The area suitable for fodder: Bandar Subdistrict (4565.7 Ha), Blado (7096.2 Ha), and Bawang (6061.3 Ha). The availability of fodder in all areas of Batang Regency is in safe criteria. Bandar, Blado, and Bawang Subdistricts are the base areas for beef cattle with a positive economic growth trend. The priority areas for developing beef cattle in succession are Bandar, Blado and Bawang Subdistricts. The land suitability map for beef cattle is expected to be a material consideration in determining the direction of livestock development in Batang Regency on the basis of regional potential.Keywords: Beef Cattle, Land Suitability, Regional Development
